Gathering a list of players and choosing which rank best fits the individual was a tall task, but we do our best to keep them updated every three months. Our recent update includes an increase in the number of players ranked from 105 to 130. Here we resume our breakdown series by taking a quick look at five newcomers.
#38 | MILTON MATTHEWS | 6’4 SF/SG | ROCK CREEK CHRISTIAN
Milton Matthews is quickly building a reputation as one of the most prolific shooters in the DMV, and was a key contributor to his team’s run to the CBAA Championship. The smooth lefty hit a three in every game this season, totaling 84 which ranked him second among his peers locally. Matthews closed out his junior campaign by scoring 10 or more points in 16 consecutive games including his season high of 36.
#40 | JHONNY MENDEZ | 6’6 SG/SF | CAPITAL CHRISTIAN
An intriguing prospect with a rare blend of size and skill, Jhonny Mendez did just about everything for Capital Christian this year. Mendez could be in line for a major breakout this spring if he continues to produce at a high level.
#47 | DARNELL SNOWDEN | 6’1 SG | FREDERICK DOUGLASS-PG
Darnell Snowden got it done on both ends of the court at Douglass this season. A reliable shooter who can score in transition or half court offense, Snowden is efficient with the ball and makes smart decisions. Defensively, he is a solid rebounding guard who is not afraid to step in and take a charge.
#56 | IGOR YOKA-BRATASZ | 6’0 PG | GLENELG COUNTRY
Glenelg Country guard Igor Yoka-Bratasz showed that he can play both on and off the ball without being a liability defensively. While on the ball, Yoka-Bratasz is a reliable playmaker who applies pressure on the opposing defense with his ability to shoot and attack the basket. He is a smart cutter and knows how to fill the lanes in transition as well.
#76 | COREY PATTERSON | 6’8 C | C. MILTON WRIGHT
Corey Patterson is a broad-shouldered, long-limbed big man who plays with a high motor. His skill set is a work in progress, but he does exhibit decent fundamentals and the ability to protect the rim as well as rebound out of his area.
