Six-foot-five Kaelen Allen, who led Westchester to the 2018 L.A. City title then was granted a fifth year of prep eligibility by the L.A. City Section administration, was the dominant inside presence during his two games at the event.
Allen (pictured) appeared to have lost some of the excess weight he carried a year ago at this time, and even earlier this past season (when the Comets lost three times to Fairfax, including in the City title game).
He scored and rebounded with ease against any of the fellows who tried to check him at Cerritos.
If he doesn’t qualify for NCAA freshman eligibility in 2019-20, look for him to be heavily recruiting by community college programs across the country.
Also playing well among the “bigs” participating was Allen’s Westchester teammate, 6-8 Kaveon Batiste.
The left-handed Batiste – who spent his first two years at Pacific Hills High in Los Angeles – has made steady progress over the past year or so.
Three other forwards who played very well were Charles Williams III (La Costa Canyon High) and Eli Seales (Bakersfield Foothill).
Williams is a smooth-shooting 6-6 “wing” while the 6-4 Seales was at the camp just two days after leaving his team in scoring during Foothill’s victory over Mt. Shasta.
Hunter Woods, the left-handed sharp-shooter who graduated from Muir last June and is spending a “post-grad” year at Golden State Prep (in Napa), knocked in a lot of jumpers, as did four-year standout (the first two at Corona del Mar, the past two at JSerra) D.J. Rodman.
