Larry Canady – 2019 – G – Racine Park
Not sure what else to say about this kid that hasn’t already been said — Canady just shows up and plays big time ball every time we see him. The unsigned senior, who’s still looking for a Division 1 offer, scored 31 points, including 25 in the first half as Park boat raced Milwaukee Vincent. A scorer from all three levels, Canady got to the cup in transition, created mid-range shots off the bounce, and knocked down his open 3-pointers at a high clip. Canady gets it done on the defensive end, shutting his man down, creating turnovers, and hitting the glass. Canady also had eight rebounds and seven assists. He’s a bit of a tweener at the Division 1 level, which probably hurts his stock, but it’s still hard to imagine Canady falling to Division 2.
Nobal Days – 2019 – F/C – Racine Park
As always, Days did a little bit of everything. The Tulane commit scored 13 points, controlled the glass, protected the rim and blocked shots, and did damage as a passer in the high post. Days also had two big dunks of alley-oop feeds that shifted the momentum in Park’s direction. Getting more comfortable in the post and as a 3-point shooter, Days has showed more signs of reaching his high ceiling. He was never going to be a finished product in high school and it’ll be interesting to see if his trajectory continues to climb with the Green Wave once he gets into their strength and conditioning program.
Aiden Flynn – 2020 – F – Marquette
Flynn really opened our eyes on Saturday. An intriguing combo forward who can handle the basketball and slash to the bucket, Flynn was a handful for DeForest, who edged Marquette by a point. Flynn sliced his way to the bucket and often split multiple defenders during a big second half. Scoring a game-high 21 points in a defensive battle, Flynn nearly helped the Hilltoppers pull off an impressive comeback.
Luke Haertle – 2022 – G – Lake County Lutheran
Haertle scored his team’s first 13 points in a victory over Sturgeon Bay. The freshman was excellent at beating the zone, finding the soft spots in the defense for rhythm jumpers. A physically advanced freshman, Haertle played in the high post as well and did damage around multiple bodies. Not afraid to stick his face in the fan, Haertle was active on the interior as well, making hustle plays and creating second-chance opportunities. Haertle finished with 21 points, including four 3-pointers in the win.
Brandon Harmon – 2019 – F – Milwaukee Golda Meir
Harmon is a very intriguing prospect that junior colleges may want to look to and develop over the next two years. Harmon is a plus-length combo forward that can play a variety of positions, including point guard. At 6-foot-6, Harmon is a mismatch problem with his ability to handle the basketball and create on the perimeter. A smooth, athletic player in transition, Harmon can make things happen in the open floor and also makes some game-changing plays defensively as a weak-side shot blocker. Harmon finished with a team-high 23 points in the win over Beloit Turner.
Alex Huibgretse – 2020 – SG – Grafton
One of the fastest rising prospects in the 2020 class, Huibgretse scored a game-high 19 points in a victory over a very tough Stoughton team. In a grind-it-out affair, Huibregtse was able to get going offensively in the second half to get the Black Hawks some breathing room and eventually help his team pull away. A deadly pull-up shooter, especially in transition, Huibregtse has quickly developed into quite the scoring weapon. The junior guard also rebounds very well for his size and facilitates from the two-guard spot as well, making him a contributor in other ways as well. We’re looking at Huibretse as a top 25 prospect by the end of the season.
Ashton Janowski – 2022 – G – Pewaukee
Pewaukee picked up a huge win resume building win at Homestead as Janowski led the way with 26 points and five rebounds. Janowski put up big numbers, but really just played within the system and took what the defense gave him. The Pirates do an excellent job of spacing the floor and moving the basketball. As a result, Janowski connected on four of his five attempts from 3-point range. Janowski was also instrumental in icing the game and keeping Pewaukee in the driver’s seat, going 12-of-15 from the free throw line.
Marvin Jones III – 2019 – PG – Milwaukee Golda Meir
An electric scorer, Jones dropped 23 points in a win over Beloit Turner. The Trojans had no answer for Jones in the second half. The senior point guard scored at will, leaving defenders in his dust. Jones can over-dribble at times, but more often than not, he’ll find a lane to the rim. Constantly pushing the tempo in transition, Jones did an adequate job of getting the ball ahead to his wings and allowing them make plays as well.
Kade King – 2019 – PF – Monroe
The senior forward had some dominant stretches in a win over Milwaukee Academy of Science. A physical, blue collar presence in the paint, King had 23 points and likely flirted with a double-double. A weight room warrior, King did an excellent job of setting up shop on the block, doing his work early, and pinning defenders under the hoop to the point where they had no chance of stopping him upon the catch. King also moves and elevates very well for his size and gets off the ground quickly. This would be an excellent pickup at the Division 3 level, especially in the WIAC.
Jordan Majeed – 2020 – PG – Beloit Turner
Majeed was instrumental in keeping the Trojans competitive with Golda Meir. When it was time to put Turner on his back, Majeed elevated himself and others around him. The junior point guard can score in bunches, but is also very unselfish. Despite having the hot hand, Majeed had a great shot selection and always passed up a good look for a great one. Scoring a game-high 25 points, Majeed got in a zone late in the first half and carried that into the second as Golda Meir had their hands full with the junior guard.
NOTES
– Carson Talbert scored 22 points for Sturgeon Bay in their loss to Lake County Lutheran.
– Lake County Lutheran got a team-high 21 points from Joey Bratz.
– Milwaukee Vincent has an intriguing late bloomer in Lamier Roby. A stretch forward with good length and athleticism, Roby knocked down some timely 3-pointers against Racine Park while the game was still in the balance. Roby does a good job of pushing opposing big men out of the post and making them play away from the rim as well.
– Zyiere Carey had a very good showing for Racine Park. The senior guard got hot in the second half and buried a number of triples in a row, finishing with 16 points. One of the unsung heroes for the Panthers, Carey is a strong on-ball defender that does damage in transition and hits open shots.
– Brandon Wilder scored 20 points for Milwaukee Academy of Science in their loss to Monroe.
– DeForest got 17 points from Trey Schroeder and 16 from Jack Bogan in their victory over Marquette.
– Declan Ciurlik had 17 points, while Jacob Kleiman had 21 for Homestead in their loss to Pewaukee.
