Clark Montessori (5-5, 4-1) vs. #5 Wyoming (5-0, 3-0) Wednesday 7:30PM- A senior dominated CHL-MVC match up that will be dominated by guard play. Both teams play with 3-4 guards on the court most of not all of the time, so expect an up tempo game. The Cougars will have to deal with the top scoring tandem in the Cincinnati Hills League in G Joey Edmonds (2019 PHO #32) and W Evan Prater (2020 PHO #25), who combine to average 36ppg.
Prediction: Wyoming
Aiken (9-1, 3-0) vs. Hughes (6-2, 3-1) Friday 7:30PM- A win by the Big Red will put them into a either a tie for second or a three-way tie for 1st in the CMAC, depending on the results of other conference contest. Aiken has one of the best senior guards in the city in D’Arris Dean (PHO #187), who is averaging over 19ppg with a shooting split of 47/42/79. While Hughes super-freshman Paul McMillan is averaging over 23ppg while shooting 48% from the floor. And both of these young men have had 40-point performances this season.
Prediction: Aiken
Oak Hills (6-2, 3-1) vs. Mason (9-0, 4-0) Friday 7:30PM- This is my 3rd season with Prep Hoops Ohio and I have learned many lessons during that time. One of those lessons is not to count these two programs out of the GMC race. For the Comets it has been the Landen Long show. Ranked 121st in the state, Long is top 5 in the GMC in points (16.9, 3rd) and assist (2.9, 1st) is looking like an early candidate for conference POY. While once again it’s all about balance on offense and stingy team defense for Oak Hills. They have allowed one opponent to score over 50 points this season.
Prediction: Oak Hills
Turpin (7-1, 4-0) vs. Walnut Hills (6-4, 2-2) Friday 7:30PM- Since there 19-point loss to McNicholas December 4th, the Spartans have been one of the hottest teams in the city winning six in a row. And there defense has been key in this run as they have held their opponents to an average of just over 42ppg. Walnut also looks to be finding their stride as well as they have won 5 of their last 7 ball games. If the Eagles hope to win their 3rd straight conference title this is a must win.
Prediction: Turpin
#5 Wyoming (5-0, 3-0) vs. Reading (8-2, 3-1) Friday 7:30PM- If Reading wants to show that they are serious contenders in the CHL, this is a must win game. Having already lost to Deer Park earlier in December a loss to the Cowboys could drop the Blue Devils into 3rd place in one of the most competitive leagues in Cincy.
Prediction: Wyoming
St. Xavier (5-4, 0-0) vs. #6 Purcell Marian (5-2, 2-1) Saturday 7:30PM- It has been a tough two weeks for the Bombers. After a 4-0 start they have lost 4 of their last 5 contest, with all five games against out of town competition. Can they find their stride against a Purcell team that has won 5 in a row and is starting to look like the team everyone said they would be in the pre-season?
Prediction: Purcell
McNicholas (5-2, 2-1) vs. #2 Taft (2-0, 6-0) Saturday 7:30PM- Taft lost to McNick in OT by four points last season and this is something Coach Bradley and the Senators have not forget. The Rockets must do a good job handling the Senators pressing style on defense and not turn this game into a track meet. Taft is a tough environment for any team to play in, especially if you are a first time visitor.
Prediction: Taft
