You want evidence of how good it is look no further than the latest Prep Hoops Ohio D-II state poll which has two teams from the conference in the top five (Taft #1, Hughes #5) and Aiken having been a top 10 team in the previous polls. So it should be no surprise as well that these three teams are also battling for conference supremacy as well, with just one game separating all three teams.

Contenders
#5 Hughes Big Red (11-2, 6-1) – With their five starters from last year moving on due to graduation this was seen as somewhat of a rebuilding year for Big Red, but obviously someone forget to give Coach Wyant and the crew that message. Hughes has won 10 of 11 games since there loss to Moeller on December 7th, with their win against Taft on January 18th being the biggest of those 10. That win also helped Big Red earn a split in the season series with their Downtown rivals and put the two programs in a tie for 1st place. Circle February 15th on your calendars, as Big Red’s regular season schedule concludes with a match up against Aiken. That game could be for all the marbles.
#1 Taft Senators (11-1, 5-1) – The Senators one point OT loss to Hughes, which by many is considered the game of the season, made the path to their 2nd straight conference title a little bumpy. But the Senators still have a chance at the title outright, with a little help from Aiken (notice a theme here). If Taft can get past the Falcons on 2/1 and the Falcons take care of Hughes on the last day of the regular season, then Coach Bradley and company should walk away with another CMAC title. That is provided that they do not slip up against another CMAC squad.
Aiken Falcons (11-4, 4-2) – Coach Cass’s program has the ability to throw a monkey wrench into all of these scenarios if they can complete one daunting task: winning out. The Falcons still have home dates with both the Senators on February 1st and Big Red on February 15th as mentioned earlier. A win against both could create a 3-way tie at the top of the standings, which according to the CMAC website has never happened before.
