Continue ReadingThe Prep Hoops SoCal team recently released its updated class of 2019 rankings. While there was little change at the very top, there were some big time movers and shakers in the mid-to-low level of the top 50.
Here’s our second positional breakdown piece where we take a look at some of the top scoring point guards in the senior class.
Boogie Ellis, Mission Bay
The Duke-bound Ellis is the No. 4-ranked senior in all of Southern California and that’s because he’s one of the more prolific scorers on the west coast. The 6-foot-3 guard is defines the phrase “scores in every way imaginable” and can will his Bucs team to victories by going of for 20-30 points in a single half. Ellis has multiple 40-point games this season for one of the top teams in the San Diego area.
Fairfax guard Ethan Anderson has shown that he’s one of the premier scoring guards in SoCal.Ethan Anderson, Fairfax
Anderson has played his way into the top 10, coming in at No. 9, as one of the toughest and high motor guys you’ll ever watch play. Anderson isn’t afraid of taking on any team or player and is confident in both his scoring and playmaking abilities. Anderson sealed his top 10 ranking by putting Fairfax on his back in a quarterfinal win over Damien at the Classic at Damien. The 6-foot-1 UNLV-bound senior scored 31 in that game with 26 in the second half.
Jarred Hyder, Damien
Unfortunately for Hyder, our No. 10-ranked prospect, it looks as if his season might be over because of a stress fracture in his foot, but let’s not forget how potent of a scorer he is. The 6-foot-3 Fresno State-bound combo guard is one of the best jump shooters off the dribble that you’ll find in SoCal and really took his paint finishing ability to a higher level prior to his injury.
Jaden Shackelford, Hesperia
The west coast colleges will be seeing Shackelford head back east to Alabama next fall, taking his smooth, yet explosive, scoring package with him. The 6-foot-3 lefty is one of the better perimeter shooters in the SoCal, but has molded into a guy who can create for teammates, as well, in his role for Hesperia. We slotted Shackelford just outside the top 10 at No. 13.
Jaxen Turner, Rancho Verde
Turner is one of the top two-sport guys on the west coast, and when he’s truly engaged on the basketball court, he’s difficult to stop. Our No. 32-ranked prospect can get hot from 3-point range in a hurry and is a very good on-ball defender which creates plenty of transition scoring opportunities for the Mustangs. Turner will head to Arizona in the fall on a football scholarship.
