Putnam City West 85, Fort Cobb-Broxton 53
Ft. Cobb took an early 7-0 lead with good team play and partially on account of a few PC West offensive blunders. Mustangs senior and SWOSU signee Kellen Hines created a few good shots off the dribble but had a hard time getting things to fall early. After missing a couple, the future Bulldog got some shots to fall, but Shelby Sampleton’s 17 first-half points off the bench were too much for FCB as PC West overcame the deficit and landed a 39-27 first half lead. After that, FCB held its own but couldn’t catch up against PC West’s press and scoring attack from every direction. The Patriots cruised to an 85-53 win. Sampleton finished with 32 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Hines had 28 points for the Mustangs.
Booker T. Washington 77, Whitesboro 59
Whitesboro held its own against the Hornets, but turnovers proved costly for the Bulldogs. Booker T. Washington led 38-28 at the end of the first half. Whitesboro refused to quit, and trailed by as few as five midway through the third quarter. The Bulldogs were unable, however, to catch up with the BTW lead. BTW went on to take the 77-59 win. Junior guard Bryce Thompson finished with 28 points and 9 rebounds while teammates Trey Phipps and Seth Hurd combined for an additional 24. Whitesboro’s Ethan Adams finished with 17 points and teammate Trevor Roberts had 13.
Kingfisher 68, Kingston 62
The Yellow Jackets remain undefeated with today’s win over the 3A top-ranked Redskins, who take their first loss of the season to Trey Green, Jett Sternberger, and company. After facing an early deficit to Kingfisher, the ‘Skins were unable to recover as Kingfisher led or tied all 32 minutes of the game. Green finished with 27 points off 66 percent shooting from the field and six 3-pointers. Sophomore standout Bijan Cortes finished with 19 points and 8 rebounds for Kingfisher. Kingston’s RJ Weeks had 25 points for the Redskins, while teammate Jacob Germany had 22 points and 18 rebounds. The Redskins shot 85 percent from the free throw line in the loss.
Memorial (Tulsa) 55, Hugo 41
Tulsa Memorial conquered Hugo in a low scoring affair on the last game of the evening Thursday night. At the conclusion of the first quarter, Hugo led the defending 5A Champions by a margin of 7-6. Nobody was sure as to whether or not the missed extra point would prove fatal to the Chargers later on. Behind an all-around scoring effort from Memorial in the second and third quarters, the Chargers were able to pull ahead and secure the first-round win with a 16-point lead entering the fourth. A late push from the Buffaloes brought the deficit to within 10, but they were unable to surpass the Chargers’ cushion. Keylan and Kalib Boone combined for 27 points and 18 rebounds. Hugo’s Houston Greggs finished with 15 in the loss.
