TWO STARS
Ace Evans – 2019 – G – Martin Luther
Evans had a game-high 25 points in Tuesday’s win. The senior guard was also a key spark plug in Martin Luther’s second half run. Evans has some traits that are D1 caliber. He’s very smooth, yet explosive on the ball and able to shake defenders and leave them in the dust. Evans plays very well in traffic and can score against multiple defenders without having to take low percentage shots. If he can be a more consistent shooter, add some strength, and improve his ball security, Evans could really rise in the coming here. He may really benefit from spending a year or two at the junior college level and would likely attract plenty of suitors at the D1 level.
Trequan Carrington – 2019 – PG – Martin Luther
Carrington’s speed was an issue for Waupun all game long. Offensively, Carrington’s blow-by ability created a ton of opportunities around the rim. Defensively, the senior guard was a pest, getting his hands on the basketball in the passing lanes and picking the pocket of his man. Carrington posted 22 points, 11 assists, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals. Continuing to prove he’s a Division 1 talent, Carrington has dominated some top level competition this fall. Overlooked because of his size, Carrington plays with that chip on his shoulder. If he doesn’t land that Division 1 offer this season, look for Carrington to attend a junior college or prep program and start to generate those opportunities down the line.
TWO STANDOUTS
Marcus Domask – 2019 – SF – Waupun
Domask matched Evans with a game-high 25 points. The Northern Kentucky commit was especially impressive defensively. Going toe-to-toe with high-flying wing Xzavier Jones, Domask got the better of that matchup. Domask had a couple of big blocks around the rim as well. As usual, Domask scored from all three levels. Defenders just can’t take too much away from the senior forward. Always playing within the flow of the offense, Domask will take what the defense gives him and capitalize on just about any mistake. Through six games, there’s little reason to believe this isn’t Mr. Basketball in 2019.
Quintin Winterfeldt – 2019 – SF – Waupun
Winterfeldt defended his tail off on Tuesday and made a number of hustle plays that energized his team. The Minnesota-Crookston commit was relentless on that end of the floor and was seen diving for loose balls into the bench. Winterfeldt also scored the ball well, adding 17 points in the loss. Known mostly for his slashing ability, Winterfeldt had some strong and acrobatic finishes around the rim. He helped get the Warriors going early with a couple of tone-setting drives. Winterfeldt is gaining more confidence in his jumper. If that begins to fall, he’s going to be tough to handle at the next level considering his strong, 6-foot-5 frame.
X-FACTOR
Joey Immekus – 2019 – SG – Martin Luther
Once Immekus got going, it was all over. The senior guard scored all 18 of his points in the second half, making five consecutive 3-pointers and going 6-of-8 from downtown in the second half all together. While Immekus did his damage solely on the perimeter, he’s got more tricks up his sleeves for a spot-up shooter. Immekus did an excellent job of getting defenders off the ground with pump fakes and then creating space on his one-dribble jumper. With Martin Luther trailing by two early in the second half, Immekus ignited an 18-0 run with his hot shooting.
