SANTA CLARITA, CA—Santa Clarita Christian has been on the rise the last couple of seasons due to an influx of talent. Last season 6-foot-7 Jordan Starr, who is now at The Master’s University, was the star of the team due to his passing prowess and overall IQ for the game.
However, there appears to be a new kid on the rise in sophomore point guard Noah Veluzat. The 6-foot-1 true point guard is a skilled lefty who possesses a nice combination of savvy, skill, and moxie. Veluzat, who played for Nike sponsored Cal Supreme in the off season, has definitely shown areas of his game that have grown.
“Managing the game from the point guard position has been an area of growth as well as my ability to create offense in the half court set,” explains Veluzat.
Veluzat is a slick lefty point guard who has a bevy of savvy and moxie.Blessed with a number of scoring options in juniors 6-foot-6 Caden Starr and 6-foot-7 Kaleb Lowery as well as senior sharp shooter 6-foot-3 Andrew Thompson, Veluzat has a plethora of ways to put pressure on the defense with his playmaking ability.
If he isn’t setting up his teammates with pin-point passing, he can create for himself with his crafty ball handling (changes speeds well) and an ability to finish with either hand. However, he feels for his game to go to a new level, he needs to improve his leadership.
“Definitely leadership would be an area that I would like to grow in as the season progresses,” noted Veluzat.
With a relatively young roster, the future is quite bright for Santa Clarita Christian, especially when your catalyst is just a sophomore in Mr. Veluzat.
