McEachern advances to the City of Palms Title Game
Fort Myers, FL – It has been a great week for the McEachern Indians out of Powder Springs, Georgia here in Fort Myers, Florida. Coach Thompson and the Indians advanced last night to the City of Palms Classic championship game after their win over Mountain Brook (AL) 50-29. With McEachern making their appearance in the title game, they become the first team out of the state of Georgia to make an appearance in the City of Palms Classic championship game since Jaylen Brown and Wheeler High School appeared in 2014. That same Wheeler squad ended up beating powerhouse Montverde Academy (FL), who featured Ben Simmons, and bringing home the title.
The Indians were led by their big three in 2020 PG Sharife Cooper, Auburn signee 2019 F Isaac Okoro, and Northwestern signee 2019 F Jared Jones who combined for 38 points in last night’s matchup. Sharife led with a game high 15 points for McEachern. The defense was absolutely on point all night long for McEachern. Coming into last night’s matchup, Mountain Brook (AL) 2019 F Trendon Watford, who is one of the top available prospects, came in averaging 34.5 points per game in this tournament. Mr. Okoro, who was matched up on the 6-foot-9 forward, had different ideas last night. The Auburn signee held Watford to only four total points while shooting 1-7 from the field.
McEachern will now face a very good Imhotep Charter (PA) squad who has already defeated University School (FL) and Oak Hill Academy (VA). Leading them in their victories was Maryland signee 2019 F Donta Scott. The matchup between Isaac Okoro and Donta Scott should also be another key matchup to watch in the title game. If McEachern secures the win tomorrow night, again they will be the first Georgia public school to bring it home back to the peach state since 2014. Will this be the year? We will have to find out tomorrow night.
