Past top performers include Brandon Jennings, Kevin Love, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, Tyson Chandler and countless other NBA stars. The tournament is loaded every single year and this year is some more of the same. Two Washington schools are in the field of 16 teams with Gonzaga Prep (Spokane, WA) and Skyview (Vancouver, WA) headed to Oregon for a top notch event. Sierra Canyon (CA) is this year’s headline team with multiple nationally ranked players. The University School (FL) is on the opposite side of Sierra Canyon, setting up a potentially massive title game. The University School rosters 2019 Duke commit Vernon Carey Jr.
Here is a quick preview of the two Washington teams and the headline Sierra Canyon squad:
Gonzaga Prep HS– Gonzaga Prep is a top 30 nationally ranked team in most rankings. 2019 6’8 F Anton Watson is the star player of Spokane’s best team. The Gonzaga signee is a threat to score 30 points, as well as grab double digit rebounds. 2020 6’5 W Liam Lloyd is an x-factor with his ability to make plays on both sides of the ball as a scorer and defender using his length. He has multiple Division 1 offers under his belt. 2022 6’5 Jayden Stevens is one to keep an eye on in future years, although his playing time is spotty right now, he has a big upside. Gonzaga Prep is curently 6-1 with their single loss coming to nationally ranked Bishop Gorman (NV). Their first game is versus Columbia Christian (OR).
Skyview HS– 2019 6’2 G Alex Schumacher is the leader and best player on one of Vancourver’s best teams. Alex is one of the best unsigned seniors in Washington and can explode for big statistical performances. He has heard from multiple Division 1 and Division 2 schools after competing on the Nike EYBL Circuit with the Rose City Rebels. 2020 6’5 F Kyle Gruhler is the best rebounder on the team and he is looked to pull down 10 or more on a regular basis. Skyview is currently 7-1. Their first game in the LSI is versus West Linn (OR).
Sierra Canyon HS– California’s top ranked team and consensus top 5 nationally ranked team is loaded with high level talent. 2019 6’5 G Cassius Stanley is one of the nation’s premier recruits and had a huge summer with Rusell Westbrook’s Team Why Not travel squad. He is widely known for his elite explosive athletic ability, but his skill set is there. 2019 Scottie Pippen Jr is a 6’1 G with lots of Division 1 offers from schools all over the country. His father was the a two-way player for the Chicago Bulls and “Jr” provides the ability to score it and defend at a high level for Sierra Canyon. 2019 6’7 F Kenyon Martin Jr is a high energy wing with offers from West Virginia, Memphis, Georgetown and 5 other schools in his list of 8 finalists. 2022 6’4 G Amari Bailey is a high-flying freshman that has given a verbal commitment to UCLA. 2019 C Christian Koloko anchors the middle and will be headed to play at Arizona after this season. 2021 7’2 Jia-Hao (Harold) Yu will be yet another matchup problem for the rest of the LSI field.
