Rancho Christian won the BattleZONE championship with a 56-54 win over host Corona Centennial. USC-bound forward Isaiah Mobley took home MVP honors for the Eagles.
Here are the First Five performers from the event.
Jaxen Turner, Rancho Verde
Turner didn’t take any time off when returning from football and had an immediate impact for the Mustangs, especially in Saturday’s third-place game. Though Rancho Verde fell to Chino Hills in triple overtime, Turner scored 27 points and hit two long game-tying 3-pointers, first in regulation and then again in overtime. Turner also made a number of key defensive plays late in the game.
Jaylen Clark, Corona Centennial
Clark got into foul trouble early in the championship game, but his efforts throughout the tournament showed that he’s taking another step forward in his game. Clark, always known as a downhill driver and slasher to the rim, looks more comfortable shooting the 3-point shot, especially off the catch.
Isaiah Mobley (left) and younger brother Evan led Rancho Christian to its second-straight BattleZONE championship.Isaiah Mobley, Rancho Christian
First-team All-Tournament wouldn’t be complete without the MVP. Isaiah Mobley scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in leading the Eagles to its second-straight BattleZone ‘ship. We talk about Mobley quite a bit because of his all-around skill-set and impact, so we’ll keep this one short.
Evan Mobley, Rancho Christian
Evan Mobley is another guy we cover a lot and there’s a reason for that. The near 7-foot junior scored 27 points in a semifinal win over Chino Hills and then posted a near triple-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and nine blocks in the championship game.
Onyeka Okongwu, Chino Hills
Big O, as he normally does, put up some of the more impressive numbers we saw all weekend. The 6-foot-9, USC-signee had 26 points and 17 rebounds in the third-place game win over Rancho Verde and had 26 points and 15 rebounds in a five-point loss to Rancho Christian in the semifinals last Friday.
