Nationally Ranked Shooting Guards Show Out at Cowtown Tip-Off
South Garland Colonels (61) – Duncanville Panthers (57)
The last game of the Cowtown Tip-Off was the most anticipated. The swingman matchups between nationally ranked prospects Tyrese Maxey and Chris Harris Jr. vs. Jahmi’us Ramsey and Micah Peavy was one high school basketball fans could not miss. The game itself was standing room only and the crowd was truly hype. The main takeaway was the return of Jahmius Ramsey. The four-star guard might have played his well into five-star status last night. However, even with his stellar performance, Duncanville could not finish the game and pull out the win. Here are the recaps on the nationally ranked shooting guards who performed when the bright lights were on.
Cowtown Tip Off MVP: Jahmi’us Ramsey / 6’4″/ SG / Duncanville / 2019 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Jahmius definitely put the city back on notice last night. I am sure he had something to prove. He has not played an official high school basketball game in Texas since his sophomore year with the Mansfield Summit Jaguars. A year in which he blew up during the high school season after Grant Sherfield transferred to North Crowley and during the summer after leading Texas Hardwork to an Under Armour Association 16U Championship. He transferred to powerhouses IMG Academy and Oak Hill Academy, but made his official documented return for his senior season last night. Jahmius was focused and locked in from the jump. He made the rim pop plenty of times with flashy and thunderous dunks. He also caught fire from behind the arc and finished acrobatically under the rim. The recent Texas Tech commit was also locked in defensively guarding on the ball. He finished with an exciting and efficient 33 points against the nations’ best shooting guards. Jahmi’us had the highest scoring performance at the Cowtown Tip-Off.
Tyrese Maxey / 6’4″/ SG / South Garland/ 2019 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
It was a tough night for Maxey in this matchup. He found himself competing against the Panthers and the referees. He picked up two quick fouls early in the first quarter. Then, he picked up a third one early in the second. Once the second half rolled around, he struggled to find his rhythm after being stiff from sitting the majority of the first half. However, the future Kentucky signee turned it around in the last quarter and made key plays to finish the game. He is a great leader who scored 15 points in the win.
Chris Harris Jr. / 6’3″/ SG / South Garland / 2019 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Chris Harris had to pick up the scoring duties in the first half with his right hand man on the bench due to foul trouble. He had a solid shooting performance converting on half of his attempts from the field. However, it was the toughness he displayed that impressed me. Harris was aggressive in getting to the rim and lived at the charity stripe. The future Texas A&M signee finished with a team high 16 points.
