COTC: 2020 Select game standouts (Part II)
Aaron Burgin’s Crème of the County brainchild completed its fourth installment Saturday at Army-Navy Academy in Carlsbad.
The event featured nine games over the course of the day with squads facing off from the classes of 2023 up to 2019.
The COTC has always been one of the best events to view San Diego’s top and uncovered talent and this year’s edition didn’t disappoint.
Here is the second set of top performers from the class of 2020 Select game.
Grant Norberg, Scripps Ranch
Norberg’s physicality was on full display as he overpowered opponents in the paint for close-range buckets and defensive rebounds. The 6-foot-8 forward, who is also a standout baseball player, has decent feel with his back to the basket, good hands and is mobile in transition.
Broock Desta, Serra
Desta is a compact, physical and athletic player who excelled in transition. The 5-foot-11 guard gets downhill quickly on the break and uses his strength and body control to dislodge defenders to get into the paint and create scoring opportunities. Desta also connected on a couple of catch-and-shoot 3-pointers.
Samuel Stewart IV, Helix
Stewart showed some smooth creating ability on the perimeter. The rangy 6-foot-2 guard has a variety of moves off the bounce which he uses to get into a pull-up jump shot or into the paint where he finished with a creative layup package.
Cobey Harraway, Army Navy
Harraway is a long, active and high motor prospect on both ends of the floor. The 6-foot-3 wing gets out and fills the lane wide in transition, finishes with power on the break and crashes the offensive glass with purpose.
Vincent Warren, Mater Dei Catholic
Warren is another intriguing wing prospect to pop up in the Select game. The long, rangy 6-foot-4 Mater Dei Catholic-product made his impact with his ability to spread the floor from 3-point range. Warren is also a heady and savvy on-ball and help-side defender.
