Recruiting Report: Jeron Artest (2020)
Hillcrest Prep is one of the top teams in the nation. They have done a tremendous job of assembling talent from an array of areas. One of those talented prospects is Jeron Artest. The 6’4 2020 PG/SG, who played with the 16U Las Vegas Prospects, has seen his stock rise greatly since coming to Arizona.
His overall athleticism has improved and he is scoring the basketball at a more efficient rate. While it is hard to say that this will be the best team that Hillcrest has ever had as there was a time where Marvin Bagley and DeAndre Ayton were on the same team, this group is still exceptionally talent.
Artest will pair up with Dalen Terry Dalen Terry 6'7" | PG Hillcrest Prep | 2020 State #32 Nation AZ and Kyree Walker Kyree Walker 6'5" | SG Hillcrest Prep | 2020 State #37 Nation AZ for what should be one of the best backcourts in the entire nation. Artest will play a huge role in the groups overall success and will make a huge splash this upcoming season.
Jeron Artest Recruitment
According to Artest, he currently has two offers: Wyoming and St. John’s. In addition to having offers from those two schools, Artest has received interest from “Princeton, Stanford, Cal, Santa Clara, UC Irvine, San Diego State, Hawaii, Navy, Butler, Pepperdine, and St. Louis.”
When asked about what he is looking for in a school, he noted, “I’m looking for a school that has a good network of alumni and students.” He continued to add, “And basketball wise, a coaching staff that will get me ready for the pros.”
Due to his skill set and excellence in the classroom, Artest will have an array of schools to choose from. He has a 4.2 weighted GPA and decent SAT scores. This will afford him the opportunity to have quite the selection by the time that it is all said and done.
While playing on national schedule with and against some of the top prospects the nation has to offer, there will be little questions in regards to what level Artest can play at. As of now, it looks like his stock is moving in the right direction.
Jeron Artest Projection
Artest is a hard prospect to project due to the trajectory that he is currently on. He is getting better and better while playing at a high level. His current offers have him at a mid to low NCAA Division-I level.
If he continues on the route that he is currently on, he will be a solid mid to mid plus NCAA Division-I prospect. He is capable of scoring the basketball from all three levels, makes his teammates better, and is a good on-ball defender. Further, his athleticism is continuing to move forward.
Artest is ready for a strong season. It will be intriguing to watch and see where he ends up as there is plenty of time for him to continue to improve his stock.
