Prospect Intro: Tico Pouncy (2019)
Tico Pouncy is a name not many outside of the 9th region have heard of. Pouncy is heading into his Senior season at Holmes with big plans for the Bulldogs in his final year. Pouncy said that his biggest strengths are attacking the rim and taking/making mid range shots but he really needs to improve on being a consistent perimeter shooter. His biggest takeaway from last season was the overwhelming disappointment that came from not making the regional tournament in March. Tico was not upset with how he performed but was upset with the team performance because “we could have made the region with our potential”.
Pouncy is playing AAU this spring and summer with a team named Team Z and told me, “We travel all around the country and the season has been going really well so far.” Leading into his Senior year with the Bulldogs, Pouncy is hoping to step up and lead his team. He told me that he needs to shoot the ball more in order to help his team the most. When I asked what his goals are for his team and himself, he told me simply, “My goal is to get my team to the regionals.” With the 9th region being wide open after many of the top players graduating in May, Holmes and Pouncy could get deeper than just making the regional tournament. They could wind up competing for a regional championship if they can play their best basketball in February and March.
