Prospect Intro: Arien Gentry (2019)
Dixie Heights basketball is on the upswing. Dixie could be a sleeper pick to compete in the 9th region this season and if Senior Arien Gentry has anything to say about it, they’ll be right in the mix to get to Rupp Arena in March. Gentry described his game as a mix between two of the top players in the NBA, “My game is a mix between Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony. I can play in the post, mid-post or I can play on the perimeter with a very solid three point stroke. My strengths are rebounding and finishing put backs, mid-range shooting, driving to the basket and handling the ball in transition. My weaknesses are not reading the defense and what they’re giving me. Also, I’m too passive and not aggressive at the beginning of games.”
Arien is very excited about his Senior year after a great Junior season, “My last high school season was a success. I was proud of my individual performance even though I could’ve done much better than what I did. I was very happy with my team’s results. We made it to regional finals against a juggernaut team (eventual state champion Covington Catholic). Gentry has not played AAU and is not getting any college recruitment right now but he he thinks that can change with a good Senior season, “I can slow down things in my mind and not overreact and ruin my self-confidence. Playing will make me better and will better my game.” The rising Senior has lofty goals as well, “My goal for this year is to win a regional championship and be the best player in the state of Kentucky.” Be on the look out for Arien Gentry and Dixie Heights this season in Northern Kentucky.
