HARDWOOD: Kansas’ Stock Risers (posts)
The Hardwood Classic wrapped up action on Sunday with several standout performances taking place in the final stages of the tournament.
Here, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several in-state players who stood out throughout the event.
50 — Cory Davila, 6’6, PF/C, 2020, Basehor-Linwood, MoKan Select
Davila is an old school post player who wants to get on the block and go to work. He battles hard for low post position and shows good footwork and a soft touch around the basket. He needs to become more consistent, but he could be a big piece for Basehor-Linwood this upcoming season.
50 — Grant Cooney, 6’6, PF/C, 2019, Topeka, SSA Elite Black (pictured)
Cooney continues to impress this season with his tough, physical style of play and willingness to do the little things at a high level. Also a football prospect, Cooney brings size and strength to the floor and a willingness to mix it up opposing bigs in the paint. He had a good run throughout the weekend competing against several talented big men and held his own.
32 — Brody Marshall, 6’5, F, 2019, Gardner-Edgerton, Team KC
Marshall continues to put together a solid offseason with Team KC and Gardner-Edgerton. He is a big with agility who runs the floor well and brings some skill to the court. He can knock down an outside shot with range out to the 3-point line, but is also capable of scoring around the basket.
9 — Mason Thiessen, 6’8, PF/C, 2019, Inman, WCS Team Driven
For the second consecutive weekend, Thiessen has impressed with his physical post play. Armed with good size and a big frame at 6’8, Thiessen continues to show nimble feet, good hands and a well-rounded skill set. He can bang in the post and score in the paint, but can also step away from the basket and knock down outside shots as well, making him a tough match-up for opponents.
