Summer Time Grind Summer League Notebook 6/8
Last night, the Summer Time Grind Summer League had its first full slate of games. This is the league’s first year running and will feature some of the top school in the Baltimore area. Here are some notes on last night’s match ups.
Martaz Robinson | 6’2 | New Town ’20
-Strong, quick, but controlled guard who sees the floor well especially in transition. Breaks down his man off the dribble and finishes around the rim efficiently. Underrated shot blocker for his position.
TJ Thomas | 6’2 | Patterson ’19
-Solid floor general whose athleticism keeps improving. Drives to create for others. Shoots it well from three in catch-and-shoot situations. Improving as a vocal presence on the floor. Scored 24 points in a win over New Town.
Gerard Mungo | 6’1 | Patterson ’19
-Strong, physical guard who thrives when attacking the basket. Has been forced to play as a forward with lack of size on the roster the past few seasons. Above average rebounder and all-around competitor.
Zack Blackwell | 6’0 | Patterson ’20
-Scoring guard who can feel it up from beyond the arc. Always looking to get out in transition and fill lanes for lay ups. Gritty defender who competes on the defensive side of the ball.
Chase Drew | 6’5 | Gilman ’19
-Very good catch-and-shoot three-point marksman. Improving with his ability to show after taking two or three dribbles. Athlete who can finish above the rim in transition. Can block shots when trailing defensively.
Jalen Rucker | 5’11 | Gilman ’19
-plays hard every second on the floor. Pit bull type of mentality who embraces contact. Can score from three and also has soft touch on floaters in the paint. Determined defender.
Malik Missouri | 6’4 | Gilman ’21
-Long wing who will grow a few more inches before his high school career is over. Very efficient shooter from mid-range both off the catch and off the dribble. Athletic finisher in transition. Good at establishing position for rebounds defensively and using his length to get the ball at its peak. Good help side defender.
Darrius Tilghman | 6’3 | City ’21
-Smooth, crafty guard that can score off the dribble. Athleticism has improved and is making him a threat in transition with the ball. Good basketball IQ. Reads defensive rotations well with the ball and finds open shooters on the perimeter.
Dominick Carrington | 5’11 | City ’20
-Gritty guard who plays hard the whole game. Defense must always know where he is around the perimeter with this ability to shoot. Pesky defender both on the ball and in the passing lane.
