Prospect Spotlight: Jack Stogdill (2020)
Treynor guard Jack Stogdill’s game was on full display last month at the state tournament in Des Moines. And it became clear then, that he’s capable of doing a bit of everything on the hardwood.
The 6-foot-2 combo-guard was a starting guard as a sophomore for the Class 2A runners-up, Treynor.
“I think that some of my strengths are shooting and getting to the hole when I have opportunities to. And then passing, I feel like I’m a pretty good passer. I do a little bit of everything for my team,” said Stogdill.
“Defensively, my job was to be a shutdown, lock-down defender, and I thought I did that this year, too.”
That all-around style of play was reflected in the stats; Stogdill averaged 8.8 points, with shooting clips of 48/46/82, 4.2 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game last season.
“My role was to do everything; score, play defense, create. And to go to state and play in front of all the people in our community, it was great.”
This spring and summer, Stogdill with play with Western Iowa Express out of Council Bluffs. And he’ll get plenty of work in at Treynor.
“Everyday we have open gym, Monday through Friday, so I’ll be in there all the time in the morning, working out. I’ll be working on some individual moves and some ball-handling stuff,” said Stogdill, who we asked to look ahead to his junior season.
“I think next year will be a lot of fun, it’ll take some time for everyone to figure out their role and how we’re going to play. I’ll play the one or the two, and it should be really fun and I think we’ll have a good chance to make it back to state.”
