The Talent: Dale vs Luther
Dale and Luther played a game for the ages. Luther looked like they had more talent on the court but they could not pull away. Luther led by one point after one quarter of play. Dale got the slight advantage in the second quarter as they took a one-point lead into the half. It took a ¾ court shot to take the advantage into the final quarter by three points. Then the game that had everything added overtime as Dale forced an extra period. Luther took the advantage in the final period of overtime, winning the game 50-49.
Syrus Grisby 2019 Luther Forward
Grisby was the best player on the court. It was evident to both teams as Luther tried to get the ball to him on every possession and Dale at times would double and triple team him to get the ball out of his hands. Grisby has good size and can shoot the ball well. Grisby was dominant on the inside and was the unfortunate culprit of some really bad officiating throughout the game. The game was poorly officiated on both sides. Grisby could be a steal in the 2019 class. He is a solid player with good size. He finished the game with a joint game-high 20 points.
Tyler Becker 2020 Luther Guard
Becker wins the award for effort on the night. He was giving 110% the entire game and did not slow down despite playing the entire game. Becker used his speed to beat his guy off the dribble and get to the rim and finish. The later the game went, the more Becker shined as he scored a majority of his points after the halfway mark. Becker will be vital going forward for Luther as they try to make a run at the Gold Ball. Becker finished the game with 18 points.
Gabe Gauge 2019 Dale Forward
Gauge kept Dale in the game with his offensive production. Gauge hit some big shots throughout the game, but none bigger than the go ahead bucket with four seconds left in the final quarter. Gauge went head to head with Grisby throughout the night and it was a fun matchup to watch. Gauge did not back down against a more talented Grisby as he was the focal point of the Dale offensive. He finished the game with a joint game-high 20 points and led his team in points. Gauge will be big moving forward if Dale want to rebound and make it to the state tournament.
