The Week Ahead: 1/8-1/13
Many schools across the state are getting into the grind of the season where they have 2-3 games per week and at least one is against a district foe. Over the next month, district seeding will be determined and the stage will be set for district tournaments starting in the middle of February. Here’s a quick look at some of the big games across the state this week.
Monday, January 8th
Somerset makes the short trek to Pulaski County for a showdown. The 15-2 Briar Jumpers take on the 9-3 Maroons in a game that is very important for district seeding.
The Louisville Invitational Tournament kicks off as Stephon Franklin and Doss take on Iroquois, Ballard battles Jeffersontown, Fern Creek tangles with Southern, and #1 Trinity goes head to head with DeSales, who just handed Butler their first loss of the season.
Tuesday, January 9th
The first round of the LIT continues with the following matchups: Male vs Valley, Waggener vs Faridale, Butler vs Saint Xavier and PRP vs Bullitt East
Hopkinsville takes on Warren Central.
Boyle County travels to Danville in a big district game.
Scott County makes the trip to Richmond to square off with Madison Central.
Marshall County will try to slow down Paducah Tilghman.
Wednesday, January 10th
Newport hosts Lloyd Memorial
Defending 10th region Champion Scott High hosts Ethan Hayes and Boone County.
The LIT continues at Louisville Valley.
Thursday, January 11th
North Bullitt plays host to Breckinridge County out of the 3rd region
In the 12th region Wayne County travels to McCreary Central
Friday, January 12th
The Semifinals of the LIT take place in Louisville. Should be some dynamic games.
Rivals Warren Central and Bowling Green go head to head for the first time this season.
Another heated rivalry is renewed as Southwestern and Pulaski go head to head for district supremacy.
Cooper and Covington Catholic have a rematch of their King of the Bluegrass game that the Jaguars won last month. That game takes place at NKU.
Saturday, January 13th
The finals of the LIT. Barring an upset, this should be the rubber match between Trinity and Fern Creek.
Christian County takes on John Hardin in the Bluegrass Cellular New Year’s Eve Classic.
Huge game in the 11th region as Scott County heads to Bryan Station in a matchup of schools with only one loss.
