Week 9 Rankings Update
After another eventful week around the state, there is some shakeup in the rankings across all four classes. The top ranked teams all remain the same, but we take a look at the rest of the movement below.
Not much changes in Class 1A, where the top four of Grand View Christian, North Linn, Remsen, St. Mary’s and Bishop Garrigan, Algona remain the same. Despite a blowout loss to 2A Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, Bishop Garrigan remains in the fourth spot, as their resume is among the best in the class. The lone newcomer to the rankings this week is Council Bluffs, St. Albert, who enters at No. 10.
The top seven teams in Class 2A went a combined 17-0 during the week and remain in the same order, although No. 2 Western Christian is making a solid argument to be moved up to the No. 1 spot as they continue raking up huge wins over quality teams. Behind the strength of a 27-point win over 1A No. 4 Bishop Garrigan, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura enters the rankings at No. 9.
Six teams from last week’s rankings in lost, so there is some shakeup behind the top two of Oskaloosa and Cedar Rapids Xavier. The lone newcomer to the rankings is Davenport Assumption at No. 10. The Knights beat then-4A No. 3 North Scott on Tuesday night.
The top three teams each lost in but Iowa City West still remains the No. 1 team. The Trojans lost to arguably the best team in Kansas, Bishop Miege, at an event in Quincy, Illinois over the weekend as they struggled to contain five-star big man Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, who had 31 points. The only in-state team West has lost to, Cedar Falls, moves up to No. 2, as Des Moines Hoover, Des Moines North and Pleasant Valley round out the top five. Pleasant Valley took control of the Mississippi Athletic Conference with a win over North Scott on Friday night. Dubuque Senior re-enters the rankings at No. 6 as the Rams have star forward Noah Carter back in the lineup. They blew out then-3A No. 10 Dubuque Wahlert in his first game back, 86-53, with Carter scoring 17 points and grabbing nine rebounds.
