Smith focused on the court
Julian Smith has always been one of the most talented Guards in the 2019 Oklahoma Class. Sure, he has had his ups and downs at Sapulpa. However, this year it appears Smith is starting to figure it out running the show at the Point Guard spot for Sapulpa. Smith recently picked up his first NCAA Division I offer from Cleveland State University. It has been a long time coming.
“If people only knew half of what it took to get the first one they would not risk even trying,” Smith said.
He is currently having his best season in his high school career averaging 25 points, 6 assists, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals per game. Smith has taken a new focus heading into this season putting all of his efforts into getting better each day on the court. Smith has certainly improved his stock on the court this season
“The key to the success I have been able to have is having a killer mentality,” said Smith. “I felt like I was being overlooked and have been working hard in the gym.”
Smith has a lot on his shoulders at a young age. Around this time a year ago tragedy struck, Smith lost his mother. The loss has been hard on Smith. He gives everything he has with the memory of his mother with him at all times.
The way Smith can score is what makes Smith a prospect to watch in the Oklahoma 2019 Class. Smith excels scoring the basketball at all three levels. He is most effective offensively when he is hitting his jumper consistently from three-point and mid-range. Over this season Smith has done a better job of getting his teammate’s open looks at the basket.
The first offer awarded to Smith took a long time to accomplish. If Smith can continue to focus on the court and improve each game it will be the kickstart to his recruitment. Stay with Prep Hoops for updates on his recruitment!
