Recruiting Report: Jeremiah Martin (2018)
When it comes to the discussion of best grid-hoop players across the state, Cajon’s Jeremiah Martin has to be near if not at the top of the list.
The 6-foot-6, 240-pound defensive end/forward led the state in sacks with 33.5 in helping lead the Cowboys to a 14-2 overall record and an appearance in the CIF State Division 2AA championship game.
Martin’s football recruitment is as wide-ranging as it gets with scholarship offers from just about every team one can imagine.
“I’m still open to everybody,” Martin recently told Prep Hoops So-Cal at the Classic at Damien. “But right now I’m really looking at Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Washington, Utah, UCLA, USC.”
The senior certainly possesses the ability to play both football and basketball at the collegiate level with his elite combination of size, strength, skill and athleticism.
Cajon forward Jeremiah Martin is looking at the possibility of playing both football and basketball at the next level.Martin mentioned a couple of schools who have had discussions with him about being a dual sport guy at the next level.
“Some college coaches have said they will come out to my basketball games and see what I can do playing both football and basketball in college,” he said. “UCLA, Utah and Arizona talked about it.”
For now, Martin is focused on getting back into basketball shape after an extended and successful football season.
“Our goal was to play 16 games and we did,” he said. “Now I just have to get back into basketball shape and I’m taking it a day at a time, but I’ll get there. I feel good, but I have to get my adrenaline, conditioning and bounce back.”
Martin didn’t look too much out of basketball shape at Damien, posting a handful of double-double efforts thanks in large-part to his willingness to accept and play through contact in the paint.
“I’m best when I’m banging down in the post,” he said. “I like being hit. I don’t know why, but that’s the weird thing about me.”
