Prospect Spotlight: 2018 Jaishon Forte
LA VERNE, CA.—One of the more entertaining games I witnessed this season thus far was at the The Classic at Damien when Inland powers Rancho Verde and Roosevelt clashed in a 2nd round match up. The game was littered with high-level athletes and an over-flowing dose of moxie.
There were a number of standout performers including Rancho Verde’s 6-foot-2 junior Jaxen Turner and Roosevelt’s 6-foot-6 senior Jared Williams. However, the most intriguing prospect that caught our eye during the game was senior Jaishon Forte.
The 6-foot-4 senior had a stellar tournament and is one of the best kept secrets in the Inland Empire. Forte is a no nonsense wing-type who can knock in deep jump shots, rebound in and out of his area, and is a stellar finisher in transition.
Forte is a diamond in the rough due to his evolving skill set and motor“The strengths of my game are definitely knocking in 3s, getting to the rim in transition, and attacking the glass,” explains Forte.
Forte has all the physical tools to be a college player someday due to his rangy frame and assertive mindset, but he knows he has areas of the game that need attention to attract college coaches.
‘My on-ball defense could improve as well as my help-side defense,” notes Forte.
As the talent continues to emerge in the Inland Empire, these types of games will become must-see contests for scouts heading forward—especially with diamond in the rough types like Forte.
