Mid-Season: 5A Rankings
Not only is Olympus #1 in 5A, but they look like the team to beat for the entire state. With wins over 4 ranked 6A teams and the #2 ranked 5A team, Olympus has set themselves apart as the clear cut favorite for 5A. In addition to Olympus, there are multiple other quality teams in the 5A Rankings.
Below is the mid-season 5A Rankings with the top 10 teams in 5A.
Mid-Season: 5A Rankings
1. Olympus
Rylan Jones, Jeremey DowDell, and Harrison Creer have been a force that no one in the state seems able to stop. Even more impressive than their 10-0 record is their dominance which which they have done it.
Currently, only one of their games has been within 10 points. Further, five of the ten games have been by 20 points or more. Jones is not only the leading scorer. In addition, he leads the team in assists as well. His ability to score the basketball and create the others is the driving force of the team.
Part of what also makes this team special is their ability to shoot the basketball from deep. Jones, DowDell, and Creer all average over a three per game. In addition, Spencer Jones and Jacob DowDell are capable shooters who can fill it up as well.

2. Corner Canyon
Corner Canyon started the season extremely strong with wins over Highland, Riverton, Bountiful, and Davis. Although Corner Canyon still has the wins to deserve to be ranked #2 in 5A, they have lost 4 of their last 7. Two of those losses were against out of state opponents, Cox Mill who is the #18 ranked team in the nation, and Westside from Georgia. Further, the other two were against two of the top teams in the state of Utah in Copper Hills and Olympus.
They will have another test tomorrow as they take on Westlake at Westlake. Gabe Toombs leads the way for this group. Despite only being 6’3, he is nearly a walking double-double with 14 points and 7 rebounds per game.
In addition to Toombs, Jensen and Mitchell dictate the tempo of the game and are knockdown shooters from deep. This team has a good balance and multiple pieces that can do damage.

3. Timpanogos
Timpanogos is extremely balanced with a number of guys who are scoring the basketball and capable threats. Typically, Derik Eaquinto and Matt Norman are the typical leaders for this team.
Timpanogos’ biggest win is without a doubt there win against Orem. Eaquinto picked a great time to have a great game in that contest as he dropped 23 points.
Both Eaquinto and Norman are capable shooters from deep who will make teams pay if they are left open. In fact, Herriman learned that lesson when Norman went off for 8 3s. This group is dangerous and certainly deserving of being ranked #3 in the 5A Rankings.

4. Jordan
While Jordan’s 6-6 record is not overly appealing, there loses have come to some of the best in the state. Further, they have played a very challenging schedule and competed at a high level.
In addition to beating Weber and Skyline as their top 2 in-state wins, they captured a victory over one of the best 4A teams in Arizona in Buckeye.
The combination of Dyson Koehler Dyson Koehler 6'7" | SF Jordan | 2020 State #289 Nation UT and Dyson Frank has proved to be deadly. This one-two punch has been hard for opposing teams to guard. Between the two, they are accounting for almost 30 points per game. In order for the team to continue to be successful and compete in a tough region and a finish off a trying schedule, these two will need to continue to play well.
Although teams do not get points for losing, they have competed with the best in 6A and held their own. Further, their schedule does not get much easier as they take on a talented Lone Peak team tomorrow.

5. Timpview
Timpview has a solid record but has not played the same type of schedule that the teams ahead of them have played. With that said, they have one of the best players in the state and in this classification in Hunter Erickson.
Erickson is a game-changer who every team should have on their scouting report. Due to his ability to score the basketball, Timpview is also capable of winning big games.
In addition to Erickson, Nate Hansen and Kelson Jensen play key roles for the team. Hensen and Jensen’s performances down the stretch will be imperative to the team’s success going forward.
