Gordon making a name for himself
After a great finish to the summer circuit with Oklahoma Wolfpack, Antonio Gordon has continued to develop his game at Lawton Ike. Gordon is coming off a monster week leading Lawton Ike to three straight victories scoring 15 on Tuesday against Midwest City followed by 42 points against Lawton Mac on Friday and 27 against Enid on Saturday. Gordon averaged 9 rebounds per game for the week as well.
At every bit of 6’7 in the paint, Gordon is tough to handle with his athleticism, long wingspan, and build. He has an awkward jumper, but it works for him. Gordon is averaging 25 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks per game this season. The key to his success on the court is his hard work.
“I’m working hard each and every day in practice and on my own time,” said Gordon. “Continuously getting up shots staying 2 hours after practice making sure I’m ready to perform.”
Gordon is best at scoring the basketball from all three levels on the floor. He opens up the paint with his jumper from three-point and mid-range. At 6’7 Gordon is able to get his jumper off with ease on the outside. He scores the ball best around the rim using a variety of moves in the paint to finish. On the defensive end, Gordon is turning into a good shot blocker. The biggest thing that has helped Gordon on defense is better control has allowed him to go up to block shots without fouling opponents. One thing I love about Gordon’s game is the energy he brings to the floor on both ends.
Gordon has improved his projection to the NCAA Division I Low Major level. Going Division I is one of his goals for his basketball career.
“My goals for this year is to win a state championship,” said Gordon. “Also, I would like to begin to find a Division 1 program that I would fit in that would allow me to achieve academic and basketball success.”
This summer Gordon intends to play with Oklahoma Wolfpack. It will be an important time in his basketball career providing him exposure to NCAA Division I programs. So far Gordon has helped Lawton Ike to an 8-1 record. He has the opportunity to make his name known statewide if he can lead Lawton Ike to the Class 5A state tournament.
