Class 6A continues to be wide open
In Oklahoma Class 6A has been the best class of basketball when it comes to teams and players. This year is however very different. The argument can be made that Class 6A has slipped possibly becoming the second best Class behind 5A. One thing is not up for debate, Class 6A is wide open. In the last week, the top four teams all suffered a loss.
Putnam City North lost the top spot for the first time following a blowout loss to Putnam City West. The Patriots look like a completely different team than the one that started the year at the Thanksgiving Hoopfest in Dallas. No team deserves the top-ranked spot in the state more than Putnam City West. The Patriots have beat every team they have played in Oklahoma. The three losses for Putnam City West have come to two Texas teams to start the year and Putnam City North. Putnam City West avenged their loss to North last Saturday in the PCI Championship game.
One could make a case for just about any team ranked in the top 15 in Class 6A to make the state tournament. Putnam City who sits at #15 has 3 wins against top 10 ranked teams in the state of Oklahoma. With Class 6A being so wide open it should make for one of the most exciting playoffs we have had in some time. Count on a team making the state tournament this year no one had making the state tournament.
My best pick for state tournament teams that will surprise this year not currently ranked in the top ten?
Owasso and Westmoore.
