The Week Ahead: 12/18-12/23
Basketball season is in full swing and we’re heading into Christmas tournament time. Nearly every school in Kentucky will play 6-8 games over the next 2 weeks. Here are a handful of the bigger matchups in the week ahead:
Monday, December 18
Fresh off a bounce back week with 2 wins, George Rogers Clark (5-2) travel to take on 16th region favorite Ashland Blazer who are 7-0 on the season.
The 5-1 Generals of Lafayette travel to Georgetown to take on 6-0 Scott County. Eric Powell will have his hands full with the dynamic back court of the Cardinals.
Tuesday, December 19
The King of the Bluegrass kicks off in Louisville. Cooper takes on Pulaski County in the highlight of the opening night.
Undefeated Waggener heads to Scott County. Juniors JJ Kalakon and Michael Moreno are two of the top 2019s in Kentucky.
7-1 Campbell County hosts 3-1 Holmes.
Wednesday, December 20
Covington Catholic tackles Ensworth High School out of Nashville at the King of the Bluegrass.
Trevon Faulkner and Mercer County tangle with Carter Hendricksen and Lexington Christian, also at the KOB.
Thursday, December 21
Lexington Catholic squares off against Newport.
Quarterfinal games will be going on at the King of the Bluegrass.
6-1 Daviess County hosts Saint Xavier in the Owensboro Invitational Tournament.
Friday, December 22 and Saturday, December 23
Most of the marquee matchups across the state will be determined by the outcomes of games earlier in the week. Semifinals and/or finals of the King of the Bluegrass, the Owensboro Invitational, the Peoples Exchange Bank Holiday Invitational and countless others will be going down all across the state.
