Sleeper Holiday Tournaments This Week in NC
As we know the Holiday season is full of big time hoops tournaments such as: The John Wall Invitational, The Beach Ball Classic and other national events that feature top players from around the country. However college coaches that are looking for sleeper prospects may want to go a different route and stop in to one of the smaller events that are taking place. So let’s take a look at some of the events that are being overlooked but will feature some talented youngsters.
The Yellow Jacket Christmas Classic
This event is hosted by Lee County High School and has an opportunity to be a good one with some possible matchups that are intriguing. Hoke County which features unsigned Senior Guards Dakari Johnson, Jaleel Ray and UNCP Signee Silas Love will be in the building looking to take home some hardware. Overhills HS will have something to say on the matter as they also are a team that can possibly take home the hardware as they are led by Junior Guard Zavian McLean who has been playing at an extremely high level. Grace Christian, Northwood, East Chapel Hill, Western Harnett, Carrboro and the host school Lee County all are participants and should provide some very competitive games.
Onslow County Classic
This event has been a good one over the past few years, with players such as: Rob Colon, Bobby Grubbs, Zach Hobbs, and many more players that are in college now taking home the MVP award. This year Northside HS will look to repeat as they feature a nice amount of talent and experience, Unsigned Senior Guards Kenny Dye & Gabe Kirkendoll will be looked upon to lead the way without a doubt. White Oak is said to be a team that could possibly give the Monarchs some competition but overall it seems as if Northside is the favorite. Lejeune HS features a sophomore who may very well be one to keep an eye on and Jacksonville HS has some solid players as well, the event will be held at Richlands HS this year.
South Granville Holiday Invitational
Each year this event has been top notch, there is always a nice amount of D1 talent in the building and teams compete against each other at a very high level. This year will be no different as the event features some top notch talented teams such as: Green Hope, Middle Creek, Northern Durham, Cape Fear Christian, Cary, Mountain Mission, Ravenscroft, Northern Vance, Knightdale , the host school South Granville and many more!
