Recruiting Report: Jacorrei Turner (2020)
Woodward Academy 6-foot-5 small forward Jacorrei Turner is a guy who likes to do the dirty work, and though he’s hot commodity on the gridiron, he could be one for college hoops programs, too.
The wide-receiver currently holds a football offer from Georgia Southern for football, and has some interest coming in from schools like Northwestern, Western Kentucky and Pittsburgh.
He says, playing both sports in college is something of a goal for him.
“I could see myself playing both (football and basketball) in college, but it’ll come down to which college is best fit for me, see how the coaching staff treats me, things like that,” said Turner.
“I’m trying to work hard to get my first scholarship in basketball. I already have my first scholarship for football, from Georgia Southern, so now I’m working for basketball.”
Georgia’s 27th-ranked 2020, Turner defined his skill-set on the hardwood, and what it is he brings to the table.
“When I’m out there, I like defense; and when I get steals and dunk the ball, it turns everyone up, and it pumps me up — things like that are what I can do,” said Turner.
“I love mid-range shooting. And ball-handling I’m OK, but that’s one thing I need to work on.”
Turner is a capable combo-forward, but projects more as a wing at the next level. And that’s where he’s most comfortable right now.
“I’m most comfortable on the wing, and when I have space to work with, for driving to the hole or a dribble pull-up,” said Turner.
And with his sophomore season now in full-swing with the War Eagles, the state’s reigning Freshman of the Year is ready to showcase just exactly what he’s capable of.
“Last year, being the Freshman of the Year in 4A, I have a lot of pressure on my back this year,” said Turner. “I just came back from football, so I’m still kind of getting into the groove, but my role right now is to score and rebound.”
