The Week Ahead: 11/27-12/2
The season is finally getting underway for real! The opening week of the season is going to provide us with some quality matchups and it will be interesting to see if there are any early season upsets or standout performances. Here’s a look ahead at some of the marquee matchups in Week 1 of the season.
Monday, November 27:
Lexington Catholic makes the trip to Wolfe County to take on Freshman Jaz Johnson and senior Deven Stone.
Dunbar starts life after 2017 Mr. Basketball Taveion Hollingsworth by traveling to Woodford County.
Tuesday, November 28:
Boyle County (without football players) travels to Lexington to take on Bryan Station. Bryce Slone and Jason Alexander facing off against Eric Boone and Terrance Clayton-Murphy should be worth the price of admisson.
Waggener hits the road to take Central in the 7th region.
Campbell County heads to Cooper to take on Adam Kunkel and last year’s state runner up Jaguars.
There’s a possible 6th region championship preview in Louisville as Pleasure Ridge Park visits Fern Creek.
Top sophomore bigs battle each other as Riley Bodner and Lincoln County go to Lexington to square off with Lafayette and Ray Surratt.
Rivalry is renewed early as Madison Central and Madison Southern go head to head in Richmond.
Wednesday, November 29
Covington Catholic (with CJ Fredrick and Jake Walter) make the trip down I-75 to take on Zan Payne, TC Price and Lexington Catholic.
Thursday, November 30
University Heights travels to Marshall County to take on Graves County at the Marshall County Hoopfest.
An early 6th region showdown is on the docket as Luke Ezell and Bullitt East head to Doss to take on Stephon Franklin and the Dragons.
Bryan Station heads to Dunbar to take on the Bulldogs.
Kyle Stivers and Franklin County travel to Spencer County in what should be a good early season contest.
Friday, December 1
Andrew Taylor and Corbin take on Kyle Rode, Carter Hendricksen and Lexington Christian at North Laurel in the Nissan Legacy Classic.
Scott County travels to Louisville for their annual showdown with Ballard.
Louisville Trinity makes the long trip to Pulaski County to go up against Steven Fitzgerald, Danny Butt and the Maroons.
JJ Kalakon, Kevion Hudson and Waggener head to Valley to battle Curt Lewis, Cameron Wilson and the Vikings.
Saturday, December 2
There are seriously so many good games and events on Saturday that it would take me 20 minutes to list them all out. I recommend going to the KHSAA Schedule and finding some games nearby and get into a gym. The season is underway and it’s the most wonderful time of the year!
