Scrimmage season has arrived in Oklahoma
The scrimmage season kicks off today in Oklahoma with basketball teams across the state starting to play other teams for the first time this season. It gives players the opportunity to face someone with a different colored jersey. Also, provides coaches the chance to see where they are at.
Prep Hoops talked with players and coaches across the state to get their thoughts on what scrimmages bring to the table for them and their team.
Midwest City Head Coach Dewayne Bradley
“If you play good people it gives us a chance to evaluate our strengths and weaknesses. It gives us an opportunity to build chemistry and develop roles.”
Victory Christian Head Coach Ryan Wakley
“It is a time for us to evaluate players, roles for players and areas of strength and weakness that we need to focus in on as a team.”
Kingston Head Coach Taylor Wiebener
“I’m more of a practice guy myself. I do, however, like an occasional scrimmage as long as it is treated very similarly to a game. That way I have a good gauge as to where we are as a team. I feel like we can accomplish and correct a lot more things during practice. But the scrimmage is a good way to gauge a team.”
Tulsa Memorial Head Coach Bobby Allison
With a team like ours with four new starters. We lined up quite possibly the toughest scrimmage schedule possible for our team. Throwing them in the fire as soon as possible against state tournament level competition will allow this year’s team to know exactly what he needs to get better at to get us back to the state tournament.”
Braden Boyer 2018 Broken Arrow Post
“It’ll be a great time to see where we are and where we need to be at as far as improving goes. Most of all I’m excited to see how we capitalize on our success last year!”
Carson Meier 2018 Shawnee Wing
“Everyone is very excited about scrimmage season. It’s exciting but we’re staying very level-headed. We are ready for scrimmages so we can see our potential but also see what we’re lacking in. We have worked hard every day in practice so we are looking to see some results in our play.”
Colt Savage 2018 Sand Springs Guard
“I’m really excited that scrimmages are starting. It’s really exciting to start going against other teams and new players. it’s exciting for our team because we get to start working on our stuff against other teams and it means the season is right around the corner. So it’s an exciting time!”
Prep Hoops Oklahoma will kickoff the scouting season in Wichita Falls, Texas at the Elite 14.
