Ryse Williams Pac Shores: Top 2019 Performers
The 66th annual Ryse Williams Pacific Shores tournament is consistently one of the best first-week events in all of the western United States.
Redondo Union played host to many of Southern California’s best high school basketball teams, which, in turn, brought out many of the area’s top prospects.
Players the likes of UCLA-bound wing Jules Bernard, high-powered scoring guard Devonaire Doutrive and talented sophomore shooting guard Joshua Christopher were on hand throughout the four day, 16-team tournament and these six juniors stood out above the rest.
Top 2019 Performers
Max Agbonkpolo, Santa Margarita
Agbonkpolo is one of the more intriguing prospects in all of Southern California due to his rangy 6-8 frame and smooth athleticism. Coming into this season, the Eagles forward had yet to raise his production to the level of his upside, but early returns from this season bode well for his future. Agbonkpolo looked more aggressive and confident as he averaged 14.8 points and 6.5 rebounds in helping lead Santa Margarita to a second-place finish.
Josh Belvin, St. Anthony
The St. Anthony point guard put together a number of impressive performances and saved his best for the biggest games. The Saints upset Birmingham and Oak Park in two of their three wins on the week with Belvin putting up averages of 14.5 points and three assists in four games. Belvin is a physical and high IQ prospect who makes the simple, yet correct basketball decisions.
Belvin led St. Anthony to two upset victories at Pac Shores.Doctor Bradley, Serra
Bradley is one of the more physically and athletically gifted players in his class in Southern California. He has the uncanny combination of speed, agility and explosive leaping ability that makes him a terror to cover in transition. What goes under the radar about the 6-foot-6 wing is his vision and passing ability. Bradley plays the point for Serra and has his head on a swivel on the break, delivering drive-and-kick passes to teammates with good timing and precision location.
Jordan Brinson, Westchester
The 6-3 combo guard earned MVP honors as his play on both ends of the floor helped Westchester defeat Santa Margarita for the Pac Shores title. Brinson scored 19 points in the championship-deciding game and put together four solid two-way efforts on the week. Brinson is an athletic, slashing guard who finishes through contact well in the paint. He has the ball skills, speed and IQ to play both guard spots and can guard multiple positions on defense.
Sean Harlston, Dominguez
Harlston is one of the more improved players in all of Southern California. He’s gone from an athletic, physical finisher around the basket to a full-blown combo guard prospect complete with ball skills and playmaking ability. Harlston hasn’t lost any of his downhill aggressiveness or eagerness to dunk on somebody, but has added high IQ passing and decision making into his arsenal.
Jake Kyman, Santa Margarita
Kyman exploded for 27 points in Santa Margarita’s semifinal win over host Redondo and showcased everything we already know about him: Big time 3-point shooter with his feet set and a high level understanding of taking what the defense gives him. The 6-foot-7 wing displayed some other impressive traits, as well, with some mid-post scoring and passing.
