Prospect Spotlight: Jaden Rogers (2021)
Most people know about the veteran leaders of the Fern Creek Tigers. Guys like Tony Rogers, Ahmad Price and Clint Wickliffe have been around for what seems like forever. This season, the Tigers are going to have some formidable young reinforcements. Two of our top seven players in the 2021 Rankings are freshmen at Fern Creek. Ranked number 7 overall and the third ranked point guard, Jaden Rogers is going to be a name we hear mentioned in Louisville and statewide for the next 4 years. I recently caught up with the young point guard to discuss his expectations for the season ahead and his future as he starts his high school career.
PHKY: You’re a top freshman on one of the top HS teams in the state. Do you feel any added pressure with being a pretty widely known name already ?
JR: I do have high expectations for myself , but I feel like I would have those for my self regardless. I’m thankful that the coaches in my community see something in me but as of right now my goal is to stay focused on getting better.
2021 Louisville LegendsPHKY: What are your goals and expectations for this HS season?
JR: My goal for this season would be to help my team in any way I can to reach our goal of not only making it to state but winning a state title. Fern Creek has a great point guard. I have big shoes to fill. The biggest expectation I have for myself is that when I’m given minutes, I don’t lose control of the game.
PHKY: How was your AAU season?
JR: I played with the Louisville Legends. Coach Dion really helped me with my game and has been a great mentor. We had a great season. We’re a new team so we’re still figuring out our chemistry but I have some great players on my team. Darrius Washington and Devean Franklin played with me for Louisville Legends too and now we’re playing for Fern Creek.
PHKY: What aspect of your game have you been working on during the off-season?
JR: I would say just working on getting stronger to prepare for playing against older kids. I also focused on my mid-range jump shot.
PHKY: Can you describe (in your own words) your game to PHKY?
JR: I am a playmaking guard. I tend to see opportunities for plays that most wouldn’t expect. I can definitely score and I do but if the pass is there and it makes sense, that’s what I’ll do
PHKY: What type of student are you in the classroom?
JR: I take school seriously cause my dad always tells me you can’t get anywhere in life without the education. So that’s makes me push myself in the classroom
PHKY: What are you looking for in a school and college basketball program?
JR: I like a school that has a lot of school spirit. That makes you feel proud to be apart of it. As for as a basketball program I like working with coaches that trust me and allow me to play , and I would want to be apart of team that is hardworking and has drive. When we everyone is on the same page , the sky is the limit.
PHKY: Do you currently hold any offers or schools showing interest?
JR: I don’t currently have any offers. I have gotten to speak to a couple coaches that gave me great feedback and hopefully that communication will continue.
It’s very early, but Jaden Rogers projects as a division 1 point guard in the 2021 class. The 2021 class looks to be one of the deepest the state has seen in a while. This group could develop to eclipse the 2015 class that produced over 20 D1 players. Fans of high school basketball across the Commonwealth should get used to hearing about Jaden and his teammate Darrius Washington. Those two young men will be near the top of the class for years to come.
