Prospect Spotlight: Dennis Flowers III (2019)
Prospect Spotlight: Dennis Flowers III (Class of 2019) St. Francis
Chaminade’s loss has become St. Francis’ gain as Dennis Flowers III decided to take his basketball skill and acumen to Todd Wolfson’s up-and-coming St. Francis program.
The 6-foot-2 junior combo-guard unveiled his talent at the Rolling Hills Fall Hoops Classic a couple of weeks ago. He is a rangy prospect with long arms, good quickness, and would be best described as a playmaker—at both ends of the floor.
“Yah, I’m definitely a playmaker. I like to score but I also want to make the right basketball play (getting my teammates involved,” explains Flowers III. “An that includes the defensive end.”
Flowers excels at attacking the paint in transition as well as off the dribble in the half court set. He uses his long arms and bounce to finish over the the length of the “Bigs.” When playing off the ball he can convert the jump shot and his range extends to 20-feet.
One of the better sleepers at the RHP Fall Classic was Flowers IIIAlthough most will notice his developing offensive game, it’s his moxie on the defensive end that should grab college coaches going forward. His length and active hands are tough to deal with and when you add his assertive mindset, that is potential deadly combo for opponents going forward.
Despite his attributes, at this stage, Flowers III is best described as a diamond in the rough and he would agree.
“I need to improve my physical strength to handle physical defenders and to finish through contact at a more consistent rate.”
It’s early in the recruiting process but that hasn’t stopped colleges from noticing the upside in this evolving two-way guard.
“San Jose State, Cal State Fullerton, Colombia, and Cornell have contacted me, but there are no offers at this point.”
With continued development both physically and skill-wise, earning a scholarship shouldn’t be an issue for Flowers III.
