Prospect Spotlight: Chad Ohmer (2019)
Back in March, Scott High School made a surprising run to the Final 4 of the KHSAA State Tournament before falling by a point to eventual State Champion Bowling Green. Gone are 6 seniors. Most notably Sweet 16 super star Jake Ohmer. Jake’s younger brother Chad looks to step up and lead his team back to Rupp Arena this season. Chad is Scott’s leading returning scorer. He averaged 9.1 points per game as a sophomore and will likely need to double that average to give his Eagle team a shot to win the 10th region and make a return trip to Rupp. I recently caught up with Chad to discuss his game and the upcoming Junior season.
PHKY: You had a great high school season last year. Do you feel pressure to try and duplicate what your brother did last year?
CO: I don’t feel any pressure to duplicate what my brother did last year. I have to focus on myself and my game and also my teams goals as far as this year and not look back.
PHKY: What are your goals and expectations for this HS season?
CO: My goals and expectations as far as this year are to win another regional title and make another run at state. There is no better feeling than winning a region and I want to make that happen again this year. With no disrespect to my brother Jake, I’d like to make a name for myself.
PHKY: Did you play AAU this summer? How did your AAU season go?
CO: I played for the Kentucky Royals. The season was great overall. We had a very good record and won several tournaments.
PHKY: What aspect of your game have you been working on during the off-season?
CO: The aspect of my game that I have been working on the most is my outside scoring. I’ve always been in the back seat just watching my brother do it all and giving it to him when needed. Now that he is gone, I’m going to have to step up and be the dominant scorer that we are gonna need to exceed our expectations as a group and to also exceed my own goals as an individual.
PHKY: Can you describe your game to PHKY?
CO: I’m a scrappy player that will do anything that is asked. Whether it is guard the big guy or rebound or score when needed, I will do it all. Whatever the cost, I just do whatever it takes to win.
PHKY: What type of student are you in the classroom?
JO: I am a great student and I carry a 3.4 GPA
PHKY: What are you looking for in a school and college basketball program?
CO: When looking for a school/basketball program I’m just looking for a school that is a great fit for me and my family. A school that gives me the best opportunity to succeed not only athletically but as a person.
PHKY: Do you currently hold any offers or schools showing interest?
CO: Currently, I do not hold any offers but I have had interest shown from Campbellsville University.
