All Met Candidate: Matt Balanc
In this series, we will take an up close look at 10 First Team All-Met candidates in the DMV. With all things being considered, our prediction covers three categories: individual production, team performance, and level of competition. We will release one candidate each day, with the players organized in alphabetical order by last name. Here, we profile Springbrook 2018 guard Matt Balanc.
PRODUCTION
Balanc led the Blue Devils in scoring last season, averaging over 20 points per game. He eclipsed the 30-point mark four times, including his season-high 43 point performance in a double-digit win over Blake. In the DeMatha Summer League, it seemed like Balanc took the next step. You just won’t find many players locally more entertaining to watch. Balanc is always playing hard, giving 100%.
PERFORMANCE
Springbrook had an up and down season a year ago, but return two of their top three scorers. Unsigned senior Cameron Rucker, who we caught up with during a recent scrimmage, should provide ample support on both ends of the floor to Balanc. We’ve included the Blue Devils in our , but they will need to prove themselves with consistent play to move up the list.
COMPETITION
One thing we know about Springbrook is that they will play anyone, anywhere. Balanc earned his stripes during a competitive summer league at DeMatha, and has a chance to put up serious numbers in an underrated county with formidable opponents such as Paint Branch and Bethesda Chevy-Chase.
