The future is bright in Oklahoma
The Thanksgiving Hoopfest in Dallas showed a few things about Oklahoma teams. One of the biggest things to note is the future is bright in Oklahoma. The 2020 and 2021 classes proved their quality this weekend against some of the top talent from across the nation. The highlight of the weekend from Oklahoma was the how much the youth had an impact on their games.
Bryce Thompson 2020 Guard
Bryce Thompson proved his worth this weekend. Thompson played very well in his first game this weekend scoring 31 points. Several have dubbed Thompson as the head of the “Oklahoma 2020 Splash Bros.” He shot the ball lights out and hit clutch shots in huge moments of the close game. On the second day, Thompson struggled from the floor. He was guarded tightly against a good Mansfield team. It is easy to forget how young Thompson is when he drops 31 points with ease against a talented Texas squad. It will be fun to see Thompson over his high school career. Thompson is the best prospect in the loaded 2020 class. Thompson is projected to be a High major NCAA Division I prospect. He holds multiple High Major offers.
Trey Phipps 2020 Guard
The other half of the “Oklahoma Splash Bros,” Trey Phipps was the best overall performer this weekend. In both of his games, this weekend Phipps shot lights out and showed he was not afraid of the stage. Phipps scored 25 points in his opening game in Texas followed by 26 in his second game. He is one of the best shooters in the state and will be hard to stop this year. When you see him in a gym, Phipps is not the player that would catch your eye, but when the game starts, he is a baller. He showed up in a big way this weekend. Phipps also plays with a competitive edge that any team would love to have. Phipps is one of the best prospects in the Oklahoma 2020 class and already holds an offer from Oral Roberts.
Tobias Roland 2021 Guard
Tobias Roland proved that despite his classification that he can play with anybody in the state. He was a fierce competitor this weekend. At times his contribution to the game does not always show in the stats, but Roland is a dominant player. When it came down to it this weekend, Roland stepped up. When PC West was struggling to score this weekend, Roland was the go-to guy. He got tough baskets and forced the other teams to foul him. He shot the ball well from the line. Roland is one of the best guys in the 2021 class and will be a huge contributor to a young PC West team this season.
Rondel Walker 2020 Guard
Rondel Walker is the best player on talented young PC West team. Walker did not play this weekend as he was dealing with an ankle injury. He is expected to be back sometime in December to make his debut this season for the Patriots. Walker is one of the best combo guards in the 2020 class with his craftiness and ability to create with the basketball in his hands. When PC West gets Walker back, they will have a dangerous young trio and could prove hard to beat in March.
MJ Warrior 2020 Guard
MJ Warrior stepped up this weekend for PC West this weekend at the Thanksgiving Hoopfest. Although the Patriots lost both their games this weekend, Warrior played well. He scored the ball well, getting to the rim and being able to hit open shots. At times in games Warrior seemed to disappear, but overall, he was the best scorer on the court for PC West. Although he was the best scorer for his team this weekend, Warrior also created for his teammates and got them open shots. Warrior is another good guard in the loaded 2020 class of Oklahoma. He showed potential to develop into a good player for PC West.
