Elite 14 Showcase Preview: Westmoore
Westmoore made a huge jump last season making the Class 6A state tournament. This year the Jags will try and take another step towards the gold ball. The journey for Westmoore starts at the Elite 14 Showcase this weekend in Wichita Falls, Texas. Prep Hoops gives the player to watch, what to watch, the head coaches thoughts and matchups with game times.
Player to Watch
Will Graham 5’10 2018 Point Guard (Committed to Oklahoma Christian)
Graham suffered a terrible leg injury this summer at the beginning of July. It is a blessing from above that he will be able to play on Saturday. He has rebounded from his injury and although he is not back to 100% yet he is cleared to start playing. Getting back into the grove of things for Graham are vital to the success of Westmoore. Graham is the the floor general and leader at Westmoore. The explosiveness he plays with make him very tough to defend as he gets to the rim with ease and creates for others. Graham is a fierce competitor. He committed to Oklahoma Christian this fall and plans to sign early.
What to Watch
The biggest thing to watch for at Westmoore is the health of Will Graham. As we stated above he is the engine that makes this team go. Don’t expect Graham to be 100% Saturday or for the first half of the season. But the health of Graham imperative for Westmoore’s chance to be a title contender in Class 6A come March. Saturday will be a good look at where Graham is at in the progress of coming back for the Jags.
Head Coaches Thoughts: Scott Hodges
What are things you are hoping to work on in scrimmages on Saturday?
“We really are excited to get out Saturday and play. We’ve got some guys that will be playing that didn’t play much for us last year, so that will be great to see how they do. Obviously with the football guys out, we will have to have some other guys step up for us. These guys play hard, so it will be fun to coach them Saturday.”
What are the goals for this year?
“We have high expectations for this group. We expect to be one of the best teams in the state and be right there in March with a chance to win it all. We believe this group will be playing their best basketball at the right time like we did last season.”
What is the biggest thing you are looking for in your team?
“This team will be fun and easy to coach for me. We have a lot of experience and great leadership and we play hard and play together. We’ve got some core guys in football and one coming off a serious injury, so it may take some time to really be playing like we can, but we know this group will work hard to get where we need to be in March.”
