Rolling Hills Prep Fall Classic: Top Senior Performers
The Rolling Hills Prep Fall Classic was one of the best fall basketball events in recent memory.
Huskies coach Harvey Kitani, who also runs his annual top-notch State Preview Classic events in January, brought together many of the Southland’s top teams for a one-day, eight-game event with matchups that made each game competitive.
Speaking of competitive, these five seniors put together performances that won’t soon be forgotten.
RHP Classic Top Senior Performers
Bryce Hamilton, Pasadena
If there’s one thing that Hamilton can do on the basketball court, it’s score. The 6-foot-4 lefty is not shy about letting shots go from the perimeter or taking the nearest driving lane straight to the rim and he did plenty of that Saturday. Hamilton scored a game-high 24 points in a 3-point loss to Fairfax, but it was easy to see why the young senior is such a highly recruited prospect.
Payton Moore, Santa Monica
Moore is one of the most improved overall prospects in Southern California. He’s taken his game from an athletic undersized small forward to a legit playmaking guard in a matter of years. Moore is still, and has always been, one of the premier perimeter defenders in the area, but an improved shot and ball skills to go along with his elite athleticism are the reason why Rice coach Scott Pera locked him up early. Moore scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a four-point loss to Damien.
David Singleton, Bishop Montgomery
Singleton had his explosive game on display against Rancho Christian and he couldn’t be stopped. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard scores from three levels with efficiency and can completely change the momentum of a game
Rising senior Cameron Shelton is one of the more versatile guards in all of Southern California.with one of his thunderous dunks. Singleton is headed to UCLA where he could excel as a two-way player.
Cameron Shelton, Damien
Shelton had one of the most interesting recruitment journey’s of all Southern California prospects. He had a number of Division I on the fence about his game and few popped with scholarship offer until Northern Arizona made extended the bid. The biggest question mark surrounding Shelton’s game is the consistency of his perimeter jump shot, which is a valid claim, but the 6-foot-2 guard makes up for that in so many ways. He’s a high motor and high character kid who never takes a play off. Shelton scored 26 points to lead Damien to a four-point win over Santa Monica.
Duane Washington, Jr., Sierra Canyon
The performance of the night went to Trailblazers’ guard Duane Washington, who has put fellow CIF Southern Section Open Division foes on notice this fall. The 6-foot-3, Ohio State-bound guard scored 33 points in the 90-85 win over Mater Dei, including 10 3-pointers. Washington brings a much-needed leadership presence to this Sierra Canyon side.
