RHP Fall Classic (Under the radar/2020/2021)
In our last installment of covering the Rolling Hills Prep Fall Classic, we are going to unveil the under-the-radar prospects in the Classes of 2020 and 2021. They may not be receiving much interest from the media and/or college coaches, but this group shows signs of evolving into players that will be evaluated for some level of college basketball.
Francisco’s Finest
Vaughn Flowers (San Pedro/Rolling Hills Prep)
CG, 6-foot-2, 165 pounds
Joel’s Take: Flowers has a nice looking frame with good length and he’s a quality athlete. He excels in transition where he can slash his way to the rim and his ability to finish through and around contact is impressive. Although he is a scorer first and foremost, he does show some signs of being a point guard someday due to his improved facilitating skills.
Andre Henry (La Canada/St. Francis)
SG, 6-foot-3, 160 pounds
Joel’s Take: Henry has the savvy of a veteran varsity player due to his decision-making and overall pace that he plays the game at. He has a terrific frame with long arms and he’s a solid athlete. He does a nice job of picking his spots and he showed the ability to slash his way to the rim and finish. In the half court set he handed out some nice assists and he never forces the issue.
Ethan Berks (Santa Monica HS)
WF, 6-foot-6, 185 pounds
Joel’s Take: When watching Berks one of the first traits that stand out in his game, is his motor. He is active in the paint area snatching rebounds and on the defensive end he shows active hands. He projects well to the next level due to his evolving inside-out skills. He can knock in mid-range jump shots or battle in the interior for some impressive finishes.
Luke Turner (Temecula/Rancho Christian)
WF, 6-foot-6, 170 pounds
Joel’s Take: Upside gets tossed around a bit much in the scouting world, but it fits to tee when evaluating Turner. The sinewy Turner is an assertive 3/4 who has a prolific shooting touch and the possesses the length to make plays at both ends of the floor. Once his strength kicks in as well as some improved mid-range skills, he will be tough to stop.
Nick Davidson (Rancho Santa Margarita/Santa Margarita)
PF, 6-foot-7, 180 pounds
Joel’s Take: It’s not surprising when watching Davidson, he is the son of a coach. He shows solid fundamentals (good feet), and he keeps the ball high. In terms of skill, he can knock in elbow jump shots and he has a nose for the ball. He is physically a year or two away, but the length, feel, and budding skill are evident.
