Recruiting Spotlight: 2018 Julian Lopez
HACIENDA HEIGHTS, CA—It was 1986 when a Jeff Lucas-led Los Altos squad defeated a highly-rated Hacienda Heights Wilson team and their star Scott Williams, who would later take his talent to North Carolina as well as the NBA. The rivalry is still continues, but it’s this time that Los Altos has the talent-laden team led by 2019 stud Jarod Lucas (Jeff’s son) and emerging senior sleeper 6-foot-3 Julian Lopez.
Signs of Lopez’ evolving tools began to emerge during his junior campaign while playing in “The Classic” at Damien. His teammate (Jarod) was the focal point of the team for scouts, but it wasn’t that hard to see that Lopez had some game too.
Lopez is one of the more promising senior sleepers in Southern CaliforniaThe one aspect of his game that stood out was his motor and his ability to affect the game in multiple ways. However, heading into his senior season, he knows his game has gone to another level. “First and foremost is my confidence. As my game continues to grow I’m getting more confident each and every game and I’m becoming a more vocal leader as well.”
Despite the growth in his game, he knows that his hard work needs to continue if he is to meet his goal of playing in college. “I need to improve my overall skill set, especially my ball handling and shooting,” explains Lopez.
The senior sleeper has received a plethora of college interest in recent weeks from the likes of Cal State Fullerton, Santa Clara, Biola, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State LA, Cal State Monterey, San Francisco State, Biola (visiting Friday), Notre Dame de Namur, La Verne,Vanguard, Menlo, and Cal State Dominguez Hills. Due to his explosive finishes and improved jump shot, look for Lopez to bag a college scholarship during his senior campaign.
