Prospect Spotlight: Tobias Roland (2021)
Tobias Roland is a 6’3 Wing for Putnam City West. Roland played his AAU ball for Team Griffin this summer. He is currently ranked #2 in the 2021 class of Oklahoma.
Roland has excellent vision with the ability to dissect the court. He can spot a mismatch on the court and will take advantage of. He is good at executing the offense.
With vision often comes a passers mentality, but Roland would like to develop more of a scorer’s mentality before this upcoming season. He would like to be a more dynamic player with adding scoring to the mix to the Patriots.
The Patriots ended their season with a disappointing taste in their mouth losing in the first round of the state tournament. Roland would like to contribute to Putnam City West in his freshman season. Putnam City is a young team this year with only two seniors.
Even after his retirement from the NBA, Kobe Bryant still has an enormous fan base. Roland’s favorite player of all time is Bryant. He loves Bryant because of the “mamba mentality.”
Outside of basketball, Roland still has his mind on the game. Roland focuses on studying film, and watching highlight of other players to see what he can add to his game.
Roland, like many high school freshmen, does not know what he would like to major in college in yet. He wants, like many other players, to play in the league.
“For me right now my biggest dream is to play in the NBA,” said Roland. “First I know I have to play in college and get a scholarship, but the main goal is the NBA.”
He does focus on school. He currently holds a 4.0 GPA, but has not yet taken the ACT.
In a college, Roland would like to play somewhere he is comfortable with the organization. He wants to play with a team that he can build on and have good chemistry with.
With the Patriots this year, Roland is purely focused on the team. He would like to build the overall team chemistry and try to win a ring.
