Prospect Spotlight: Mike Burns (2018)
Michael “Mike” Burns is a 6’8 power forward from Butler High School in Louisville, KY. Last season, Butler finished 16-12. Burns finished his junior season averaging 5.2 points and a handful of rebounds. But don’t let the stats fool you, Burns has a ton of potential.
“It’s hard for me to describe my game, but I know I’ve just gotten a lot better,” said Burns. And he is right. Burns did not start playing basketball until his freshman year. He is currently ranked 33rd on Prep Hoops Kentucky prospects rankings.
This summer, Mike worked on his ball handling and jump shot. “I can really see both of those aspects of my game getting better, and I’m also getting stronger.” Burns played AAU ball with the Louisville Lightning. “The summer was really great for AAU and summer league ball. i showed that I could do a lot more than just sit on the block.”
Goals going into his senior season include helping Butler win the district. “If we keep working and hopefully go in to win regional too, and then go to state.”
Burns has interest from a number of different colleges. He pointed out that Davenport University and Campbellsville have reached out to him lately.
