Prospect Spotlight: Jordan Fuller (2020)
Sherman Oaks Notre Dame sophomore guard Jordan Fuller welcomed the philosophy of his new high school coach.
Matt Sargeant, who was a standout player at Ocean View High before playing collegiately at Princeton, took over at Notre Dame this summer and Fuller said his system fits his game perfectly.
“What we have now, that we didn’t have last year, is defense,” Fuller said. “Our defense this year is insane. We got a new coach and changed everything, so if we implement all of that onto the court, we’ll be good.”
Fuller showed his defensive chops at both the Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo and Pangos Frosh/Soph Camp in September.
The 5-foot-10 guard picks up baseline-to-baseline, has impressive lateral speed, quick hands and a motor that never quits.
“My dad has been putting defense into my mind my whole life,” he said. “Nobody really focuses on that in workouts, it’s all offensive stuff, but I work on trying to get quicker on defense.”
Sophomore guard Jordan Fuller makes his mark in an area most take for granted: Defense.Fuller credits his elite stamina to conditioning and rock-solid mindset.
“We condition a lot, way more than last year,” he said of his high school regimen. “Our gets in us. If we’re not in a particular spot where we’re supposed to be, he’ll stop everything and move us to that spot.”
Outside of his defensive mastery, Fuller hangs his hat on his speed in the transition setting.
“I run the floor well and I can get to the basket at any time,” he said. “Defense is my specialty, though.”
As for improvements to his game, Fuller has been working tirelessly on his jump shot, and his enhanced efficiency from the short corners is evidence of that.
“I’ve been working on my jump shot all summer,” he said. “It’s coming along. Every Sunday I go to the gym and shoot 500 makes. It takes a good two and a half hours. I think I need to get stronger and trying to be quicker and faster than everybody.”
Fuller has high hopes for his college potential and said he’s heard from Pepperdine as his recruitment begins to take form.
“I want to go to a Division I school for sure,” he said. “And I want to have the full college experience.”
