Prospect Spotlight: Bryce Long (2019)
Bryce Long is a 6’2 shooting guard from Scott County High School in Georgetown, KY. Last season he helped the Cardinals finish with a 31-6 overall record, winning the 11th Region tournament and advancing to the Kentucky state tournament. Long averaged 11.8 points while shooting 46% from the field (36.5% from deep). “Last season was incredible. We had a great group of guys that made it fun to play with,” said Long of last season’s accomplishments. “We made a good run but came up a little short (falling to eventful state champion Bowling Green) in the state tournament.”
Long was considered one of the 11th Region’s deadliest shooters, and considers that a strength of his. “My game, to me, is that I’m a really good catch and shoot player – but one who has definitely gotten better at shooting off the dribble.”
This summer saw Bryce working on his game and playing AAU basketball with the Louisville Lightning. “I had a good AAU season, as well as working on my game a ton individually.” Along with improving his shooting off the dribble, Long has also been working on getting his shot off quicker and getting stronger so he can bang and finish at the rim as well. “I’ve also been working really hard at improving my defense.”
In the classroom, the Scott County junior is an A/B student and is taking his first shot at the ACT here very soon. Long hopes to find a school that will offer him an opportunity to study Engineering while playing hoops. “I hope I can go to college and have a strong bond with the players. Where everyone is unselfish and moves the ball to get the best shot possible.” Long doesn’t currently hold any offers, but claims interest from Lipscomb.
Going into the 2017-2018 season, Long says the goal remains the same for Scott County: “this season we are looking to make a statement early and show everyone what we can do. Prepare for tournament time to the best of our ability and hopefully make it to Rupp. But we won’t be satisfied just making it there.”
