Prospect Spotlight: 2019 Marquise Nelloms
LONG BEACH, CA.–It’s been awhile since Long Beach St. Anthony has been on the recruiting radar in regards to producing college-level prospects. You may have to go back to 1988 when McDonald’s All-American point guard Darrick Martin (UCLA/NBA) laced them up for the Saints. However, that trend appears to be changing as the Saints made a splash in the playoffs last season, led by an outstanding 2019 Class—most notably 6-foot-5 Marquise Nelloms.
Nelloms is a rangy 4/3 with very long arms, outstanding quickness, and he possesses a nose for the ball. “My strength is definitely my motor,” explains Nelloms. “Attacking the offensive and defensive glass and getting deflections all over the court is what stands to me when evaluating my game.”
Nelloms is the ultimate “glue-type”Every team needs a glue-type as I like to call them. That type of player that has the mindset that I will do anything it takes on the court to get the “W” for his team. While watching Nelloms he fills the lane in transition, rebounds well in and out of his area, and he possesses leadership ability as well.
However, for him to attract more college attention there are areas of his game that need to improve. “Ball handling and polishing my post moves will definitely take my game to another level,” explains Nelloms.
Nelloms hasn’t received much recruiting interest just yet, but he is open to playing Division 1 or Division II. “I just want to play ball.”
