2019 Oklahoma prospects primed for breakout season
The 2019 Oklahoma Class has several players emerging from the offseason that appear to have turned the corner. By the looks of it, the players listed are poised for a rise in the 2019 Oklahoma Rankings. All three players had big summers on the grassroots circuit.
Antonio Gordon Lawton Ike Forward
Gordon is a long raw athletic Forward at 6’7 in the post. He has an awkward looking jump shot. But once you get past the jumper of Gordon there is a lot to like about the Lawton native. Gordon is a force defensively using his size and hops to give opponents fits. He moves his feet relatively well allowing him to come out and guard some Wing players. Gordon thrives on offense attacking the rim using his length and athleticism to get to the bucket and score. When Gordon’s jump shot is on, he is tough to stop. Gordon entered the grassroots season thought to project to the NCAA Division II level but is rising near the NCAA Division I prospect level with his recent improvements.
Cooper Peterson Edmond North Wing
Peterson is an offensive sleeping giant for the Edmond North Huskies. When you go down the list of bucket getters in the 2019 Oklahoma Class, Peterson is very high on the list. With the graduation of all five Edmond North starters, Peterson will step into a vital scoring role. The opportunity for Peterson to breakout this season as one of the primary scorers for Edmond North is there. The question of what Peterson will do with the chance looms as the season approaches. Prep Hoops thinks Peterson will progress as a scorer and thrive in his role with Edmond North. He projects to the NCAA Division II level.
Zach Lerblance McAlester Wing
Lerblance had a breakout summer with the Oklahoma Power 16U Select squad. Now the question remains can he take his success in the summer to the hardwood this high school season at McAlester? I think Lerblance could be one of the best rural players in the state. The way he can score the ball at all three levels with his smooth jumper makes him stand out from the pack. He has sneaky hops and athleticism. Keep a watchful eye out for Lerblance who projects to the small college level.
